It was an action packed weekend at Winsport in Calgary, Alberta as the Calgary Inferno hit the ice in their first home games of the 2013-14 season facing off against the Toronto Furies.

Friday saw the teams compete to an eventual shootout win by the Inferno on the large Olympic sized rink to a final score of 3-2 on the back of leading goal scorer Jenna Cunningham. Cunningham was the only skater to score in the shootout beating Furies goalie Sami Jo Small to clinch the home opener and extend the Inferno winning streak to two in a row.

Saturday the Calgary Inferno skated to another victory over the Furies on their home rink at Winsport’s Joan Snyder arena. The final score of 2-1 saw winning goalie Kathy Desjardins claiming the first-star after stopping 15 of 16 shots. The Inferno managed to get off a total of 26 shots in their victory.

Sunday returning to the Joan Snyder arena for a noon puck drop saw a tight fought battle through two periods of play. Coming in to the third tied at one, it looked like the game was headed to an extra frame as Furies netminder Christina Kessler had shut the door stopping 27 of Calgary’s 28 shots through two. But it was in that third that Toronto unleashed their fury and notched six goals on just nine shots getting them by Inferno goalie Delayne Brian. The final score on Sunday saw the Furies snap the Inferno winning streak at three games to a final score of 7-1.
